The prerequisite for admission is a first university degree, which is proof of the academic background that defines the examination regulations. The examination board determines that the admission requirements have been met.
In the component selected in the area of specialisation, you must prove that you meet 60 ECTS entry requirements from a previous university course. For the EAS component, you must have at least 10 CP in Linguistics, 10 CP in Literary Studies, 10 CP in Language Competence and 10 CP in Cultural Studies. For the component GAL at least 15 CP in NDL and ÄDL have to be proven.
In the specialisation area English and American Studies, knowledge of the English language at level C1 (GeR) must be proven, in the specialisation areas French and Spanish knowledge of the respective language at level B2 (GeR).
For English, proof can be furnished by a Cambridge test, IELTS test (score of at least 6.5), TOEFL-ibT test (score of at least 110 points), a certificate from the Language Centre of the RWTH Aachen University or a certificate proving English language skills at C1 level. For French, DELF B2 or a certificate from the Language Centre of RWTH Aachen are recognised, for Spanish, Cervantes B2 or a certificate from the Language Centre are recognised.
Placement tests at the RWTH Aachen Language Centre can only be taken by students who are already enrolled at RWTH Aachen University. External applicants must provide proof of language proficiency using one of the other options listed.
